What is there to tell?
Kenneth Rogers Jr grew up battling imaginary ninjas and demons in a
backyard home in Peoria, IL. When not saving the world as a caped avenger, or torturing his older sister, Kenneth was found in corners of his home reading the words of great authors, watching bad 80's movies, and Nickelodeon cartoons. Somehow, the mixture of words on the page and on the screen inspired a spark of creativity that could not be ignored. While living in Peoria, Kenneth did not write. Instead, he read and performed the words written by others on the stage. Performing in Children's Community Theatre, school performances, and speech competitions, Kenneth developed a knack for giving words life that would suit him later in life. Coming of age in District 150 and moving throughout Woodrow Wilson Elementary, Sterling Middle, and Peoria High, he developed talents and created friendships that would suit him well. Although Kenneth was performing for the stage he always kept a journal of his ideas to help guide his thoughts and imagination. After graduating from high school, Kenneth left Illinois and traveled to Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH and because of personal reasons he withdrew from classes and moved to Maryland to live with his sister, her husband, and their three children. For one year Kenneth battled with depression, and dark thoughts that clouded his abilities of creativity. As the weeks and months progressed he wrote those dark thoughts, journaled them, filled pages and pages with words so that he would never forget who he was and what had taken place. Over time those words became characters, and those characters told stories all their own. Some horrific, some inspirational, some funny, extraordinary, but all true in their message. After one year of seclusion, Kenneth returned to Bowling Green State University where he double majored in political science and English. During those four years of higher learning Kenneth continued to create stories, and perform while in speech and debate. While a member of the BGSU Forensics Speech and Debate team Kenneth learned the art of story telling in prose interpretation, the crafts of good dialogue in duo interpretation, comedic timing in after dinner speaking, and the lost art of good public speaking in persuasion and impromptu speaking. Kenneth won numerous state, national, and international awards while on the team, and continuing to write. Before graduating from BGSU Kenneth published his first work of fiction, a book of short stories called Thoughts in Italics. From there he continued to write, showing his expanding abilities as a young author in his first novel Writing in the Margins. Since then, Kenneth has been featured in papers and publications in both Ohio and Illinois. As of now Kenneth is still living in Bowling Green, OH coach speech, and in the process of writing his next novel Sequence. |
